Chaco Side-Necked Turtle
   
The Chaco side-necked turtle Acanthochleys pallidipectoris distribution is limited to the Chaco region of Paraquay and Argentina and probably occurs also in eastern Bolivia.

It typically lives in basins and lakes with some bank vegetation, often used by cows as watering place. Acantochelys pallidipectoris is adapted to the special temperature conditions of the Chaco reagion where it can get very hot during the dry season and the water places may fall dry. Than Acanthochelys pallidipectoris may hide underneath bushes and roots and estivate on land.

Characteristical for Acanthochelys pallidipector are the enlarged conical tubercles on the inside of each thight near the tail. .
