The Brazilian radiolated swamp turtle Acanthochelys radiolata is distributed in eastern Brazil along the costal area between the mouth of Rio Sao Francisco to Sao Paulo State. It typically lives in basins and lakes with some bank vegetation, often used by cows as watering place. Acantochelys radiolata is not aktive during the day and does hide on the bottom of the ponds during that time. Also this turtle does travel over land after rainfalls and might hide in brushes and brushwood during the dry and hot seasson.
Compared with other Acanthochelys species, this turtle is a relative good swimmer and does not have any problems with deeper water
Radiolata eggs are spherical and clutch size is between 4 and 7 eggs
Acanthochelys radiolata prefers small lakes and ponds which are often found on farmland in southeastern Brazil
