Chelodina canni
(McCord & Thomson 2002)
Cann's Snake-Necked Turtle

Chelodina canni (former Chelodina novaeguinea, Australian form) is known from the Roper river drainage in northeastern Northern Territory, eastwards through the drainages of the Gulf of Carpentaria in northwest Queensland. In Cap York it is found in drainages from Cairns in the north down to Rockhampton in the south
This species is slightly larger than it's New Guinea counterpart Cheldona novaeguineae and can reach a Carapace length of about 250mm.

This species was named after John Cann (Sydney), who spend his whole lifetime in exploring the fauna of Australian freshwater turtles.
